Do My Meals Qualify for Coverage?

The King’s Table provides medically tailored and healthy meals that may be eligible for

coverage through certain insurance plans and programs.

Because coverage varies by provider and individual situation, we encourage you to check

directly with your care team or benefits provider.

ZIP CODE CHECKER COMING SOON...

Depending on your situation, here are the best places to begin:

WHERE TO START

Your Health Insurance Provider

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card.

Ask if your plan covers:

  • Medically Tailored Meals (MTM)

  • Nutrition or food-based health benefits

  • Post-hospital or chronic condition meal support

Your Doctor or Care Team

Your physician, case manager, or care coordinator may:

  • Know if meals are covered under your plan

  • Be able to submit a referral or prescription

  • Help document medical need (often required for coverage)

Medicaid (Wisconsin)

If you are enrolled in Wisconsin Medicaid (BadgerCare Plus or other programs):

  • Contact your health plan (such as Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Molina

  • Healthcare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, or iCare)

  • Or reach out to your case worker or care manager

Ask about:

  • “Food as Medicine” programs

  • Home-delivered meals for chronic conditions

  • Nutrition support benefits

State & Local Programs

Some community or government programs may offer support for meals, especially if you:

  • Are managing a chronic condition

  • Are recently discharged from a hospital

  • Are a senior or have a disability

You can check with:

  • Your local Area Agency on Aging

  • Community health organizations

  • Social workers connected to your care

Questions to Ask

When you call, here are a few helpful questions:

  • “Do I have coverage for medically tailored meals?”

  • “Are home-delivered meals covered for my condition?”

  • “Do I need a referral or prescription from my doctor?”

  • “Are there preferred providers I need to use?”

  • “How many meals or weeks are covered?”

  • “Is prior authorization required?”

process.

A Quick Note

Coverage varies widely, and not all plans include meal benefits. If meals are not covered, you can still order directly from The King’s Table as a self-pay option.
